Frequently Asked Questions & Directions
  • WHAT KIND OF BOAT WILL WE BE FISHING FROM?
Northwest Fishing Charters has a 28' Uniflite Salty Dog. At nearly 11' wide, this boat offers a spacious rear deck, comfortable heated forward cabin, and a stand-up marine head (bathroom). The boat is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment; including Humminbird electronics, electric Cannon downriggers, and Shimano rods and reels.

  • WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Northwest Fishing Charters supplies all of the necessary fishing tackle, bait and bottled water. You should bring your favorite lunch and suitable clothing, which may be anything from shorts and a tee shirt to full rain gear. Layering is the best approach so that you can remain comfortable all day as the weather changes. Check the forecast and plan ahead.

  • WHAT TIME DOES THE BOAT LEAVE THE DOCK?
Normal day trips usually depart at daybreak (morning departure may vary in the summer). Afternoon trips are dependent on both parties schedules. If your party has reserved the entire boat, all times can be adjusted to accommodate your particular schedule, if worked out in advance.

  • HOW LONG DO TRIPS LAST?
Morning trips are 6 hours in duration from boarding to return to the dock and afternoon trips are 4 hours in duration unless limits are achieved earlier. These times can be changed at the Captain's discretion. Our goal is to give all people on board a good opportunity to catch fish.

  • HOW WILL WE BE FISHING?
A vast majority of the salmon caught in Puget Sound are caught by using downriggers. Northwest Fishing Charters specializes in downrigger fishing but will, if conditions warrant, switch to alternative methods.

  • DO YOU DO ANY OTHER CHARTERS BESIDES SALMON?
While salmon is our specialty, Northwest Fishing Charters also offers charters for sea burials.

  • WHAT TYPES OF WILDLIFE CAN WE SEE?
Common sightings include diving birds, sea lions, and seals. Whales can also be spotted during certain times of the year.

  • DO YOU CHARGE FOR CLEANING THE FISH?
NO--Cleaning of your catch is included in the Charter rate.

  • DO I NEED A FISHING LICENSE?
A fishing license is required and is available on the boat for $10.00.

  • ARE THERE ANY OTHER FEES BESIDES THE CHARTER RATE?
Please see our RATES page. There are no hidden or surprise charges. All rates and required fees will be explained and agreed upon at the time of booking the charter.

  • WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?
Northwest Fishing Charters operates in all kinds of weather. Our boat is equipped with cutting-edge electronic navigation equipment; including radar and GPS. However, the safety and comfort of our passengers is always our first priority. If the conditions are deemed to be unsafe (for example: high winds, thunder & lightning, etc.), the trip will be rescheduled.
